On 13 January 2022, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is turning 109. The sorors say Happy Founders Day. More than 1 century of service to the community, Delta Sigma Theta has become the largest African American Greek-letter sorority in the world as a sisterhood, scholarship, and service.
Let’s flashback to the beginning of Delta Sigma Theta, on 1913, 22 women college students at Howard University wanted to promote and highlight academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need for human rights and civil rights. Quoted from Delta Sigma Theta’s official website, The sorority’s first public project was the Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, DC, March 1913. The next programs in the majority are based upon the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust, such as economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement. Then the sorority was incorporated in 1930.
Today, Delta Sigma Theta invites women from all over the world to showcase how they are #LivingOurLegacy on their social media profile to celebrate the 109th Founders Day.
