Women are again and again be in the center of attention this month. Especially in Philippines as the nation is currently celebrating the National Women’s Month in this March 2022.

To highlight the gains achieved for women and girls, also the empowerment of women as harbingers of change that is anchored on malasakit at pagbabago (which means devotion and innovation), the theme for National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) 2022 is the cap to the six-year recurring theme “WE Make CHANGE Work for Women” which has been set since 2017. So, the sub-theme of “Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran” which means “Women’s Agenda, Towards Development” will guide this year’s celebration. Filipino Woman are exercising their choices, taking chances to make their voices heard, and benefitting from and trailblazing changes.

Quoted from the Philippine Commission in Women, the 2022 National Women’s Month celebration calls on stakeholders from both the government and private sector to:

  • Assess the gains already achieved towards gender equality and women’s empowerment and prevent sliding back as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and other national issues;
  • Inspire actions to promote a gender-responsive pandemic recovery; and
  • Draw attention to the priority gender issues that must be addressed by future public servants, as outlined in the recently-updated GEWE Plan, which spans until the year 2025.

We understand that there are many crises that the country is currently facing in various fields, not to mention the COVID-19 pandemic. Well, here’s studies and data from the Government of Philippines would like to tell you how is the health crisis stalled movements towards gender equality. It is worsening inequalities, further exposing gender gaps, and exacerbating vulnerabilities in social and political, and economic aspects.

This time, we shouldn’t have to ask for recognizes women’s valuable role in society. We shouldn’t again and again proves that inclusive and sustainable development is only possible when gender equality becomes obtainable. For Filipino Women, this is the time for them to use their power to take the narrative, raise priority issues that matter to them, and call for concrete actions.
