Has anyone here ever done or regularly donates blood? In the health field, there are many conditions with high bleeding potential that raise the need for blood. Therefore, since 2015, a joint initiative of the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross, and Red Crescent Societies organized World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) to raise awareness of the need for blood donation every 14 June.
The focus to commemorate important days such as WBDD usually varies according to the current related condition, and in 2022, WHO set the focus of WBDD to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities. The focus then goes on the slogan “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”.
Cited who.org, the purposes of WBDD are to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion, to highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems, and to support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations, and other non-governmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programs by reinforcing national and local campaigns.
This day becomes the opportunity to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood. On WBDD, WHO also calls on the governments and national health authorities of each country to provide adequate resources to increase the collection of blood from voluntary, unpaid blood donors and to manage access to blood and the transfusion of those who require it.
All countries around the world are open for anyone to voluntarily donate blood, and it needs a blood donor program that required wide and active participation from the population. However, WHO said that there are still many low-income and developing countries that experience acute blood supply shortages. With that being said, it is important to spread more widely about this day. So, here is Twibbonize to rescue. Various World Donor Blood Day 2022 frames are in Twibbonize, such as below:
