This Twibbonize frame was created by a Community Monitoring Forum for Indonesia’s Disability Inclusive, named Formasi Disabilitas. Based on the information from the frame’s initiator, Mohammad Ismail, who works for the department of the database of the Formasi Disabilitas, the Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs in a series of commemorations of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2021 cannot be accepted by other Indonesian people.

The Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tri Rismaharini, forced a person with a hearing impairment to speak in public. This happened when the celebration of International Day of Persons with Disability was held at the Ministry of Social Affairs office, in Jakarta, on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

In Ismail’s perspective, what Risma did was the attitude of an audist. Audisism is an attitude of discrimination or prejudice against deaf individuals who think that their hearing and speaking abilities are better than they been doing. In other words, audism is tantamount to banning the sign language.

“What Mrs. Risma did as an audist, her attitude is unacceptable. So to not drag it on, Mrs. Risma as a public official, she is a Minister of Social Affairs, is better to apologize,” said Ismail.

Twibbonize frame of Stop Audism was created for the Indonesian people, especially community groups who interact with deaf people (parents, family, neighbors), and the community of government officials. This Twibbonize frame is aimed for those groups to not support the audism behavior.

Ismail said that the Twibbonize application was very helpful for this movement for disability groups in Indonesia. Through Twibbonize, it is easy for people to use this frame and share it on various social media platforms.

In addition, “through Twibbonize you can also find out how much support has been obtained by looking at the statistics of the supporters who download this frame” continued Ismail.

According to Act No. 8/2016 on Persons with Disabilities, the Formasi Disabilitas hopes that deaf culture education is carried out more massively. Ismail conveyed the simple wishes from Indonesian disabilities are mutual respect for diversity and eliminating hidden discrimination in social life.

Time keeps running, day by day, and our friends with disabilities not only in Indonesia but all over the world still have to face inappropriate behaviors in social life. Not only on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, but every day, we must be aware of audism.
