Did you know why we should celebrate the ocean? 70 percent of the area on this planet earth covers by the ocean. Un.org said the ocean produces at least 50 percent of the planet’s oxygen, it is home to most of the earth’s biodiversity, and is the life source for every living creature on this planet. With that being said, how can we not be concern for our ocean?
A day for us has been designated to remind the role of the oceans in our life. It is on 8 June, World Ocean Day first declared in 1992 at the Global Forum that was held in Rio de Janeiro. Then, 16 years later, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) finally designated 8 June as the World Ocean Day according to the resolution 63/111 in 2008. According to un.org, the purpose is to build awareness about the impact of human actions on the ocean, so a developing worldwide movement for the ocean is expected, and to mobilize and unite the sustainable management of the world’s oceans exists in the world.
Since this day has been designated, countries around the world have celebrated World Oceans Day every year with a different theme. The theme selected for World Oceans Day 2022 is “Revitalization: collective action for the ocean”. Cited un.org, this theme highlights the communities, ideas, and solutions to protect and revitalize the ocean and everything it sustains together.
