After 6 months served as a Chief of the Philippine National Police, Guillermo Eleazar recently retired from the police force. He is now running for the Senate under Partido Reporma, led by the tandem of Senators Panfilo Lacson and Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto III.
Under this presidential aspirant Senator slate, Eleazar is joining the senatorial race in 2022, substitute Paolo Capino, a persons with disability advocate who withdrew his certificate of candidacy (COC) on November 12, 2021 due to “slim to none” chances of winning.
Quoted from Capino’s Twitter post, he announced his exit from the 2022 Senate race to allow the Lacson-Sotto tandem strengthen its senatorial lineup further.
“I am officially announcing my withdrawal from the Senate race. The last survey which included my name in it means my chances of winning are slim to none. I recognize the need to further introduce myself and my advocacies” said Capino on his tweet.
Whereas Eleazar through his Facebook post announce his bid for the Senate on last November 14, 2021. “Today , I accept the challenge to replicate the brand of public service that we have shown in the Philippine National Police in the past six months , I accept the challenge to work for the vision of genuine reform and transformation for the Filipino people , and I accept the challenge to run for senator of the Republic of the Philippines” said Eleazar.

Eleazar is the sixth PNP chief appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte. Same like Eleazar, Lacson is also a former PNP chief during the Estrada administration. Now, Lieutenant General Dionardo Bernardo Carlos is the current Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to replaced Eleazar.
Eleazar is known as one of the most charismatic and recognizable police chiefs in the Duterte government, beside the Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa who has been successfully run for senate in 2019. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa was also a Duterte’s first PNP chief who oversaw the implementation of the bloody drug war.
